First week at school......

This was my first week at my new school. I am so happy that I have such a wonderful co-teacher that truly understands the importance of respect for the child. I am rediscovering the reason that I fell in love with the Montessori method. I have made several new materials and I will post pics to my new environment soon.

Hello....

So sorry for being MIA for most of the summer, but I have been searching for a JOB. In the meantime, I am in the process of taking down my old website and building up a new one. Check it out and let me know what you think. I still have lots of learning and tweaking. I am trying to get the photos organized by Seasons, Works, Art Projects, etc. It is a lot of work and I am trying to figure out the new site. I hope everyone is having a great summer!

Parent Conferences....

This week were the first parent conferences of the school year. I am so lucky to have such a great group of parents! Everyone was seemed so pleased with the school and classroom. Even though preparing for the conferences take a lot of time, it is so nice to be able to talk with the parents about their child's progress.

Buying for the classroom

I vowed not to spend another penney for my classroom. I have used up most of my budget due to buying the washing stand, ironing board, iron, art easel, and housekeeping stand. I have a little over $100 to last the entire year. Anyway, DH and I went to our favorite Goodwill store and there were so many cute things for the classroom. The total only came to $3.00, but those dollars do add up by the end of the year. Usually our grocery bill will be an extra 10-15 dollars a week due to snacks or cooking projects. This year, our school is using the sharing basket. Each week, I choose a family to bring snack, flowers, plants, etc. It has been working out great and the kids enjoy participating. During the same week, they are given a Sharing Bag which they use to bring special items for Show and Share time. Of course, it is hard to resist that unique object that we find at the thrift shops. LOL

Work Plans In The Classroom

We are becoming settled in the classroom. The K's are eagerly working from their work plan. We choose several works from different areas of the classroom and the K's choose which work they want to work with first. We call this their "challenging work". The child chooses a challenging work from their work plan and after they complete the work, they are able to choose their "choice work". The choice work can be anything that the child wants to do. Snack, art, etc. The child in the K program is not given a schedule to complete their work plan. In the EL I and EL II classrooms there is an expectation of when the work plan will be completed. It can be a one week or a two week work plan.

Here are just a few items that I received free from VistaPrint. You can order up to 4 items for the price of S&H which came to $12. I also ordered a custom tote bag for our "sharing bag" I was able to customize it as well. The large postcards came in a set of 50 and the standard postcards come in a set of 100. I ordered the cutest postcards for birthday celebrations. Have you used VistaPrint?

Open House

I spent the day in my classroom. It wasn't planned, but I really wanted to put some of the works on the shelves. We had an open house this afternoon and several current families and possible new families came. The enrollment is looking very good for next year! Yeah! I will post pics asap.

New classroom

Well, I spent 2 weeks of vacation working in the new classroom. I am happy to report that everything survived the move to our new building. Contemplating the layout kept me up many nights. I finally figured out how I wanted to set it up. I was also lucky enough to score new shelves (the older ones that I had must have been used by Maria herself!). Anyway, cultural is now all natural shelves instead of the yucky white ones that had about a million coats of paint on them. I have been shopping Etsy for new works for my classroom. I bought the World Map and the one with the little boy Follow the Child. I want to buy Role of the Teacher. She offers a 20 percent discount if you send her a photo of how you use the pictures.

I also had some rather large purchases of an ironing board/iron and a scrub board. My classroom budget has now been depleted! I will have to get creative for the rest of the year.

I am also so super excited to be getting a new assistant! She is a trained art teacher for Little Rembrandts. She also has just finished her Montessori training and internship. I am looking forward to a great year.

I need to remake many of the works in the classroom, but just haven't found the energy yet! Don't forget to check my website for photos.

The end of a busy year!

Wow! This year has really gone by so quickly! I have been so busy with organizing and packing for the new school. The directresses are so excited to have our own brand new space. Of course, we are also going to have a lot of patience to sort out all the new changes.
I will be getting a new assistant for the next school year. I am excited about the opportunity to share ideas, thoughts, and knowledge with this new person. I am going to try and make a Montessori Assistant's Guide for her. I read that AMI requires their directresses to make an "assistant's album". I was trained by AMS and this was not a requirement for us. If anyone has any ideas on what to include in the album, I would very much appreciate it. Thank you and have a wonderful summer. It has been such a busy month! We had 2 "Cold" days as opposed to the traditional "snow" days due to the weather being waaaaaay below zero. We are rushing to put Art on the walls in anticipation of the Open House on Saturday. Friday was a work in the classroom day, so we were able to get a lot of new "works" put out for Practical Life and Sensorial. The kids were really excited to use the new activities!
